INAUGURATION OF MORNING STAR ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN – KAMUTHI

The works he does are great and unfathomable, and his marvels cannot be counted. (Job 9:10)

In view of eradicating illiteracy and developing personality of the young women, the first seed sown has been “Morning Star Arts and Science College for Women”. It is in Kamuthi Parish, which is in Sivagangai Diocese that is well known for the Saint cum Asian evangelizer St John de Britto.

Women who have no education are a barren land: Weeds may grow in it!

Good children may not be cultivated.

In the light of the idea of Bharathidhasan that Literate women are like well-prepared land, only education of women will uplift a society. In today’s context, even though we may grow in many fields, the bar of rural women’s education needs to be raised. Hence, in view of bettering women’s standard of living, our Morning Star College came up in Pasumpon, Kamuthi which is in the underdeveloped district of Ramanathapuram.

On 15.09.2016, Bishop of Sivagangai Most Rev Susaimanickam blessed and laid the foundation stone for our Morning Star College. On 26.04.2017 the ground floor was blessed by him. Because of the boundless mercy of God, in the academic year 2018-2019, we got the approval for the college on 13.07.2018.

COVID -19 RELIEF WORK :

Covid – 19 Pandemic has created an unusual circumstance in the world history. The whole world is currently struggling not only with health crisis but also poor economy and poverty including our nation.

In order to contain the spread of Corona virus, the Tamilnadu Government announced state-wide lockdown which put the daily wage earnests and the poor in trouble.

All over Tamilnadu several people from various fields are donating for the relief of poverty. Our sisters of Sivagangai province (CIC) wanted to be a part of such good work.

Witnessing the struggle of people such as Srilangan refugees, Gypsies, differently abled, Cobblers, Scavengers, Lepers, Widows, AIDS patients, Poor Formers etc….. in their locality for daily bread, the sisters of the Province extended their helping hand by providing food provisions (rice, dhal, grocery etc) and identified themselves with the suffering of the poor and the needy.

Though not in front line reminded of the works of Jesus “Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” (Matt 25:40). The sisters were indeed glad to do a small Charity to their neighbours.

FRIENDS OF CIC

“You, brothers, must select from among yourselves seven men of good reputation, filled with the Spirit and with wisdom, to whom we can hand over this duty.” (Acts 6:3)

We are necessitated to select collaborators when vocations to religious life are becoming less and less. Hence, by recruiting interested women and imparting training, we are planning to engage them as collaborators in our Parish ministries. As a preparation, on 26.11.2016 and 11.02.2017, Sr. Jeya Mary Sebastian and Sr. K. Arockiya Mary held conferences for Amala associates. Once a month, training has been given by our sisters in Ramnagar, Susaipparpattinam, Paramakudi, Thondi and Leonard House respectively.

Training sessions were held in various places for the 45 women who have volunteered to collaborate with us.
All the 45 Amala Associates have dedicated themselves on 22.04.2018 in the solemn Eucharist concelebrated by the Vicar General of Sivagangai Diocese, Fr.Lourdu Raja and the Assistant Parish Priest Fr Arockia Raja.
